Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread
A 75 year old lady along our road has been summoned for jury service. What do we think? Safe? Advisable?

20200626_181348.jpg A very well behaved family of swans in Long Water, Home Park, Hampton Court. We booked a timed slot for Hampton Court gardens and it was glorious - so few people* and so few aircraft. * in the gardens. Plenty of large groups on the Thames towpath with not very much social distan...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
We finally forced ourselves to get to the end of Killing Eve S3 on iplayer this evening. Has any other recent series lost its way so comprehensively so quickly?

Commiserations.
Bank may not be an empty gesture. One of our local hospitals is getting lots of people set up on bank, we assume because they think a second wave is likely enough to justify significant preparations.

Serial numbers and records
From one of those "100 years ago today" columns in newspapers, I learnt that this week was the 100th anniversary of the verdict on the "green bicycle" case (Wikipedia has an account) - a lady cyclist murdered, and circumstantial evidence pointing at a gentleman cyclist she had met on that day's ride...

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/18/nurse-claims-met-police-wrongfully-arrested-her-because-she-black-neomi-bennett Has anyone followed this case and watched the police bodycam footage? I could easily believe that the initial decision to stop her car was racist, but I'd be interested what ...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
Staged. Michael Sheen and David Tennant and friends playing versions of themselves meeting over VC. It's funny, each episode is short and born out of great affection between all the actors. That, plus Jonathan Creek. Even the very early episodes have aged quite well. When I Liked this this morning,...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
The Salisbury Poisonings has been very impressive, I thought. Last part at 9pm tonight. We're enjoying it a lot too (watched eps 1&2 so far). And it's not hard to see why (apart from some good writing and acting): public health officials as heroes; recommendations to take far-reaching early action ...

Re: Small lobbying gains or self delusion?
Having read the latest Cycle, I was prepared to be in a generous mood, and point out (a) that we now know that the new Interim Chief Exec is in fact not only a former London cycle commuter but a Brompton user, and (b) it featured words from Chris Juden for, I think, the first time since he was sacke...

Re: Meanwhile...
I have a long history of issues with my ear and have regular checkups, over the weekend my ear decided to really go for it so this morning I called the booking centre at the hospital and was told I can only get an appointment by GP referral, rang GP, cannot speak to anyone until Thursday, cannot wa...

Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread
I have a thin cycling balaclava which I'm wearing sometimes for Sainsbury's with the top pulled down. I am doubtful it does anything much medically but I want to be seen to be behaving like a responsible member of society.

What was that little out and back diversion just south of Heathrow for? (I don't know that area).

Re: TV/Streaming shows
We loved it. In the shock of week two and after the madness of early March it was the first time I laughed out loud for ages. We've also enjoyed the Covent Garden Gloriana and the Glyndebourne Seraglio. At some stage I want to catch up on a couple of bits of Monteverdi, but after a tough day at wor...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
Is anyone trying the National Theatre Live streaming of theatre shows, or any of the equivalent offerings from other theatres? It doesn't really work for me: theatre shows are designed for the dynamic of a captive audience in a physical place and the shared communication between audience and stage, ...
