Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread

I have only once witnessed an adult epileptic fit and it was indeed scary. But from a First Aid perspective, epileptic fits are a relief. With most other medical emergencies, you actually have to do something, and therefore have all the stress of remembering what it is you're supposed to do and whet...

Re: Meanwhile...

I think burying a loved one would be hard at the moment. Just the practicalities of it. But also, we a lot of people come to my parents' funerals we had never met. It was such a comfort as these strangers reached out to tell me what mum or dad had meant to them. You can't have that now. I hope you ...

Re: And a happy new year

And to you all too. Did any of you allow your 90-something grandmother to stay up till midnight in order to read poetry outdoors in sub-zero temperatures (moving though it was)?

Likewise. Christmas stockings opened with (grownup) children over Zoom. Our first ever just-the-two-of-us Christmas lunch eaten. Full family Zoom coming up.

Well, we sang our once-a-year Rutter last night, so I'm a happy man. (Also Bethlehem Down so i'm doubly happy. And completely unrepentant of my musical tastes.)

Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread

In Sainsbury's, a Sainsbury's employee (in uniform and clearly on duty) was chatting quite loudly to a customer. Nothing wrong with that. But it became apparent that he was holding forth an anti-vaccine conspiracy theory.

I crossed to the other side and walked on by.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/209771-oldest-bicycle-shop Closed. The shop is now a different cycle store, and Pearson's still has a store in Sheen, near Richmond Park, so probably better suited to their high end products. But a sad day. Bugger. When I was a kid, Pearsons in Sut...

Finally admitting defeat

Right at the start of Lockdown 1, i fitted a Brooks saddle to my bike. I figured that a whole summer of daily but shortish rides would be ideal to break it in before embarking on any longer rides. Today I gave up, fitted an old gel saddle, and had the pleasantest Sunday coffee ride for some months. ...

Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread

Excellent news and good for you. Towards the end of my time working for a large company, we had quite a debate. The younger engineers would increasingly refuse to take on responsibilities unless the company recognised that and paid them more. I maintained to the day I left that my philosophy at that...

Re: THIS SITE MAY DISAPPEAR TOMORROW! SORRY!

Cue a post by @The Real Ravenhurst on Bastard Landlords... TRR may just about recall that she had a part (albeit a rather peripheral one) in our elder daughter's decision to read English at university. (I cited TRR to her as a role model for reading English. Though, come to think of it, if TRR feat...
