Re: Bollocks to Brexit

They are all intent on crashing the country. And I think this is wrong too. We know that that's the likeliest outcome of some of the insane rhetoric we're hearing, but I don't for a moment believe that any of them accept that fact. They genuinely believe that they are doing the best for the country...

Re: Bollocks to Brexit

Boris could also destroy democracy. For what it's worth I think we're a very long way from that - not least because he wouldn't have the balls to completely suspend democracy, and doesn't have the numbers in parliament to do it via a democratic coup. As Hong Kong is proving, in the era of instant c...

Re: Bollocks to Brexit

Heated debate in our house. Being a household of doctors and teachers (well, one of each), Hunt and Gove are held in especial hatred and contempt. But if either of those turns out to have the best chance of stopping Boris, should we not promote them? Unless you happen to have close friends among th...

Re: TINGE to CHANGE

Funnily enough, the Groucho Marx line occurs to me in relation to a different politician, whose principles have proved remarkably flexible since he was catapulted into a job well beyond his extremely limited capabilities.

Re: Your Ride Today

Extending the miles. North Buckinghamshire is less precipitous than the south, but still not flat. Screenshot_20190609-152118.png And I don't know if this is a standard issue memorial, but it's the first I've seen and a nice change from the standard issue camp soldier leaning on his gun. It's in Tho...

Any notes of spice and zest are so restrained that they're hidden behind the overwhelming bland notes of very ordinary wheat beer.

Don't bother.

I'm sure when I looked at home there were three trains an hour on the Aylesbury route. At Wendover it was mysteriously only one - fortunately within 10 minutes.

Re: Meanwhile...

No. It was hovering. It must have been doing some sort of surveillance. Kind of creepy now I think about it. It must have got special permission to be there as we must be restricted airspace as we are one of the two approaches to Heathrow. Planes were not overhead when the chopper was there. As the...

Re: TINGE to CHANGE

I was wrong on how much support the Greens would get, though I don't know if in the SW the support was widely spread or localised. This is the first time since, I think, my first ever general election (1992 - living in Oxford East) in which I've voted for the candidate who has ended up top in my loc...

Polling station practically deserted at rush hour last night. 60 / 40 Leave constituency. Not sure what it means though. http://www2.politicalbetting.com/index.php/archives/2019/05/24/the-big-picture-from-the-turnout-figures-is-that-the-more-an-area-was-for-remain-the-more-people-voted-yesterday/ I...

Re: Meanwhile...

When I got the polling place at 7:30 this morning there had already been a fair few coming through, and there were about as many in as I'd expect for a general election. I came past again at 8 this evening and it was busy.

In the referendum this constituency was roughly 55-45 remain.

Re: TINGE to CHANGE

Well remainvoter.com is recommending that people in London and the south-east vote ChangeUK. "The Liberal Democrats look secure on 2 seats and the Greens on 1 seat. Neither will get another, so vote Change UK to get a 4th Remainer seat in the Southeast." Which I find surprising as a piece of tactic...
