Re: My new friend....
That's lovely, Joan, but LEL! Crikey! Please keep us informed throughout, and best of luck.
Re: Art News
I know this was two years ago, but it almost made me cry. I really miss cycling in London flitting about from museum to museum. https://i.imgur.com/jXCELiQ.jpg As if Dry your eyes! I did venture to London in September, albeit sans bike, to catch the Paula Rego exhibition at Tate Britain while there...
Re: Art News
If you're having a bit of a bad day this guy is the perfect antidote - what a street art hero. He paints exquisite miniatures on discarded chewing gum, all commemorating people and events that have been requested by passers-by. And he does all sorts of other inspiring stuff as well. And he's got an ...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
Two hours of new documentary about Frank Zappa tonight (BBC4, 9pm). I know he had some views and wrote some lyrics that wouldn't be so acceptable today, and a lot of his output was incomprehensible to many (including me), but I always really liked his style somehow.

Re: TV/Streaming shows
Did anyone else watch the two startling opening episodes of Paris Police 1900? For once the 'contains scenes that some of you might find upsetting' advice was spot-on (but, phew, 'no animals were harmed in the making of this series'). It's complex, brutal, and intriguing so far, and I'll be watching...

Re: TV/Streaming shows
As there's precedent for including radio in this thread, I want to share that I am dismayed to discover that Radio 4 has commissioned a comedy quis show in which minor celebrities have to guess how old other celebrities are. I think it might be the lamest, most unfunny thing I"ve evef stumbled upon....

Re: Your Ride Today
Wow. Thats a really good recovery you have made. Any soreness today? Thanks! I feel mostly OK today, but I did struggle up a couple of not very big hills yesterday - I think I am pretty much recovered now, but my fitness isn't great yet. I have been walking increasing distances recently but not muc...

Re: Your Ride Today
I joined some compatriots this morning for the regular Tuesday ride, my first one since the surgery. Just to the coffee stop and back, 14 miles. Yay.

Re: Football Songs
I don't know anything about football songs, but I do rather prefer the current longer-length shorts, much more flattering.

Re: UK politics
I think you might have missed my point. The party she has been active in for however many years (who cares?) has done more than most to facilitate Tory success, not least the social crime of "Austerity". I don't see their victory here as much of a triumph.

Re: UK politics
Much as it's always delightful to see a Tory defeated, I wish it had been by someone other than what I believe to be a Tory wearing a yellow rosette. I admit to being utterly prejudiced against the LibDems, due to being lied to once by their local candidate and so making the huge mistake of voting f...

Re: Very specific train question
A ticket office person once sorted out a seemingly intractable ticketing problem for me, and said rather sadly, 'They pay us to sit here helping people, it's what we do. You're always better off talking to a real person.' A bit sweeping, admittedly (surly ticket office personnel definitely exist) bu...
