Re: Front light recommendations?

I use a Phillips front light that I got for my first Friday, so that must be nearly 10 years now. It runs off 4 AAs which was part of the attraction (you can carry spares as long as you also carry the right size Allen key to change them) but nowadays would be seen as a technical dead end. From memor...

Re: UK politics

It's very odd that of all of the broken promises by politicians (every single politician who's ever held any kind of power has broken some kind of promise) it's Clegg's tuition fee promise that is still salient for people who are looking for a reason not to support his former party. Certain Labour ...

Re: UK politics

It's not just austerity though is it. There's a clear line through Nick Clegg - tuition fees - politicians blatantly demonstrating they can't be trusted - cynicism about politics - Brexit (not saying it's solely his fault before anyone misquotes me, just a contributor). Setting the cause of PR back ...

Re: Very specific train question

Great. I can see from earlier posts that you're familiar with what Sustrans considers to be fit for the NCN... I used to be very cynical about Sustrans and the NCN, both the principle and how they've implemented it. Well, I still am, but on this occasion we just need a ready-made minimum-planning r...

Re: Very specific train question

... @JohnToo in case you've not ridden the K&A before: the surface is quite narrow and rough in places, and gets muddy if it's been wet. A hybrid with mudguards would be a good choice. I refer you to the picture a bit up this thread: https://cyclingrelated.uk/download/file.php?id=1388 32mm (her)/35...

Re: Very specific train question

Hi Everyone, long time no see... I think I've found a glitch with the GWR online booking system: if you try to make your bike reservation before reserving your seat, it will tell you that there are no spaces available. I managed to secure a bike reservation on the same train by booking the seat fir...

Re: Very specific train question

My wife and I plan a short, gentle cycling holiday in July. Bikes on train to Bath, Kennet and Avon route back towards Reading. Only it turns out there are about 20 trains from Paddington to Bath pus two from Waterloo on the relevant Saturday, and according to the online system, on every single one ...

Re: Covid-19 Pandemic Thread

My understanding is that people involved in other local-ish mass vaccination centres predict complete and utter chaos at Twickenham today.

I haven't heard anything about this, their website says the pedestrian gates remain open 24 hours, and nothing in the news.

I haven't been in the park after the main gates have shut in a while, but I may do a reccy next time I am out after dark.

Was it the Sheen entrance?
Roehampton gate.

Re: Your Ride Today

Cycling back at midnight from a dinner with friends in Barnes, we rocked up at Richmond Park expecting to enter through the pedestrian gates and have a glorious night time cycle through the park - only to find the gates padlocked. It's not deer culling season, is it? Anyone know if this is new policy?

Re: TV/Streaming shows

See also the ghastly and unfunny Bridget Jones franchise. I enjoy Bridget Jones (well, 1 and 3 anyway). I plead the TRR defence: I've sort of been counting on being able to watch both good stuff and terrible stuff on the telly without it having much impact on whether I am a good or a bad person.

Re: TV/Streaming shows

I have never watched SATC. Reading Hadley Freeman, that makes me feel like a less good person; reading you, it makes me feel perhaps not such a bad person....

Edit: I've only ever watched a couple of episodes of the Sopranos either, so it probably just makes me a culturally limited person.
