Re: 3 fresh eggs for dinner - what should I make?

Omelette. For reasons to do with the randomness of neuronal connections and the limitedness of my life experiences, I associate a three-egg cheese omelette, still slightly runny, with arriving at the Lauteret en route for Galibier. So I make myself one whenever I need mentally transporting away from...

Re: Disk brakes

Thanks. On drop bars, I’ve never got on with cycling on the hoods, partly because that’s usually too stretched out for my prolonged comfort, but partly because I could never exert enough force on the brake levers from there for anything other than very minor speed trimming. So I now understand that ...

Disk brakes

I don’t think i’ve ever actually cycled a bike with disk brakes. What is the real attraction? Is it stopping power? In the days when side pulls were the best you could hope for on most bikes with cantilevers a luxury reserved for exotic touring machinery out of the budget of a student, I certainly s...

Re: Maths quiz

What is that from? I’m guessing it’s KS3-ish level? It’s labelled “senior division” and it seems a bit easy to be the a harder option for GCSEor equivalent?

It is great that he accepts his original answer was unthinking.
Didn’t Bradley do something similar in a vodka-induced haze after winning gold in 2012 - make an offhand comment about cyclists wearing helmets, then withdraw it afterwards when he realised what he’d stumbled in to?

Re: The book thread

The heart’s invisible furies. John Boyne. A novel about being gay in Ireland and facing the resulting prejudice, especially religious prejudice. It covers the narrator’s whole life from his unmarried pregnant mother being publically expelled from her rural Cork parish at the tail end of the war, thr...

Handlebar grips

My solo bike’s handlebar grips are manky and need replacing. Those of you who have cycled with me on Fridays may have noticed that I use foam Grab-Ons. I do that because I get wrist ache on longer rides and I figure foam has got to be more squashy and absorbent of vibration than cork. But I notice v...

Automatic watching

Every time I make a post (a grand five now I believe), I seem to automatically subscribe to watching that thread. Any hints as to how to turn that off? (As opposed to manually unwatching each time which is a bit of a pain).

Re: Uploading photos

Joan - you edited a post of mine with a photo earlier - the annotation said something about rotation. I recall some previous discussion about the orientation of photos - was this the same issue? How does one avoid causing someone else needing to edit the photos we post?

Re: Your Ride Today

I hesitate to claim it as a “ride” but as a bicycle was involved I might get away with it. My colleagues at work tipped me off that we were bringing in a new transformer to a local-ish substation in the early hours of this morning. So I took my Brompton and for a happy hour forgot any pretence of be...

I would vote for anonymous likes. Some posts cry out for credit, but I agree that identifiable likes is a road to cliques and factions.
