And Kings still don't seem to be able to sing in time, and the trebles are as rough as ever, even singing a programme almost completely of easy favourite hits. The only choir items we haven't done with the local church choir are the Three Ships on now (and it's not got many redeeming merits), the Judith Weir number from last year, the Part (which is a bit of a swine to sing - Russian is a tricky language for a choir) and the Rutter (because Mrs I, in charge of music, has taste).

I just have to ask even though a little voice is telling me not to. Why, if it gives you so little pleasure, do you listen to it? (A somewhat similar question, I guess, to why so many people who have walked away from contributing to CycleChat still seem to follow it avidly and even seem to seek out the threads and posters that will cause them most offence.)

We unashamedly sang a Rutter at our Nine Lessons last night, as we unashamedly do every year, and I unashamedly thought it beautiful. But then again I don’t particularly care whether anyone thinks i’ve got taste or not. Peace and goodwill to all .

If you can go back to the village in the evening, eat at Que Tal (https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/puer ... 501/355136) - no choices, 5-odd courses, great fun and extremely good value. We stayed in Puerto Mogan (just in front of a prehistoric cemetery) last year.

It's called hate watching, and there is pleasure in it. It's just not the same pleasure as watching something you think is good.

When we watched the Hobbit, we lived tweeted it (ok, Facebook, not twitter) to an audience of one, I think. Tearing apart that movie was more fun than I had enjoying many better movies.
