Wikipedia is just the symptom, surely, given that its content is user-provided.

The prof (Mrs R) has a wikipedia page......from time to time it is edited by Gravel (no 2 son) to add bits about how awesome her sons are. That sums up wikipedia for me.

It's not so much the sexism, it's the elevation of nerd culture above everything else. Humans with actual achievements have to fight to get on (or have multiple people fight on their behalf), but if a spotty teen decides to create a page describing every detail about a minor Marvel/DC character, that will get approved in moments.

I went into a board/RP game shop near Waterloo one Easter Monday. There were a group of teens and men at the back of the shop, huddled around a table playing a game. I think they had been there all weekend. The way that shop smelt is the way Wikipedia smells.
