Apart from being an amazing actor and a very entertaining speaker he was a thoroughly good bloke, by all accounts; he bankrolled independent newcomers to the film industry, and turned down a CBE and a knighthood.

A director linked to Finney also died in February.
Stanley Donen, the most famous director you've never heard of. He directed Charade, one of my favourites, and Two For the Road (with Finney and Audrey Hepburn), one of my parent's favourites. Most famously Singing in the Rain, but also Royal Wedding, Funny Face, On the Town, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Bedazzled (?!) etc etc.
Then there is this amazing sequence from a film I've never seen. Without digital photography I think they basically exposed the film once with Kelly doing one part, then re-exposed the same negative with him doing the other part. Then off to the lab, then watch the rushes to know if they got it right.
But it's a lovely sequence. I could watch it again and again.
(and the title song dance from Singing in the Rain is one of the most joyous 3 minutes of film ever)
