I believe fight club was accurate on this fact: manufacturers only issue recall notices if they calculate the cost of the recall is less than the cost of law suits if they ignored the issue.

Bon voyage!
Indeed. Ford Pinto, anyone? (Not quite the same but similar principle...)

I don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if they didn't also take into account the reputational and consequent financial damage of not recalling. The Ford Pinto example is so famous precisely because it was badly handled, which resulted in damage to the Ford franchise and profits way beyond the cost of the lawsuits.

And in any case, wiki reckons that the whole thing has been misunderstood, and the Pinto was no more flammable than any other car of its time.

Indeed. I have used the Ford Pinto example in presentations on risk management and risk communication, and the point i’ve always sought to make is that you can have a product that is acceptable by all the contemporary safety standards, and you can make absolutely legitimate risk-mitigation decisions by contemporary cost-benefit standards, and still be judged at fault by public opinion and suffer the consequences.

I’m sure it will be fine. I think BMW are being cautious.

It needs a service anyway, so I might see if they can do it at the same time.

It's a long time since I fell asleep on the train!

At least it's only one station.

You meant to get off at Peterborough, next stop Edinburgh?😀

I wonder what the longest journey between two stops on a timetabled journey in the UK is? Isn’t the roads equivalent, the longest distance between two motorway junctions, supposed to be the M26 westbound?

East Coast do a Flying Scotsman service that only makes one stop Edinburgh to London, in Newcastle.

Just to be pedantic, it's operated by London North Eastern Railway.

Going on time, it's about 4 hours from Preston to Stirling on the sleeper.

In all of my working life, I never had a useful appraisal. My boss for the last 11 years of my career used to talk mostly about his dogs.

I always find the self assessment section of a performance review quite tricky, but you seem to have nailed it.
