I'm making meatballs. Just put the mince in a bowl, salt, pepper, allspice, egg, cream cheese in a bowl. Washed my hands then plunged both into the bowl to mix. Just as I pass the point of no return a new podcast starts:

"6 Guardian readers, 3 zoom dates and we listen to all of them"

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

A New Regime

In the movie, The Ring, if you see the video you are doomed. The only way to escape that doom is to convince someone else to watch the video, and they take your place.

The leadership of our residents' association works in much the same way. So now it's my turn to be chair.

(cf: "it's my turn in the barrel" , or "I was standing when the music stopped")

Anyhow, as the process of becoming chair was closer to a coup than an election, I decided to lean in, and sent the following email to the committee mailing list...

Subject: The New Regime

We have plague; we have a murder crow living on the river; there is no flour at the supermarket. We live in dark times because now, on a pale horse, arrives the fourth horseman of the apocalypse: conquest.

Yes, RA has a new chair. And it seems that is me. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. But despite the pleas from literally hundreds of residents, I will not be renaming RA to Joanistan.

Oh. OK, maybe lockdown is getting to me a little. πŸ€ͺ

[serious part]
As you may be aware....

My dad has been in hospital since Monday, this morning he was told he was going home..we are still waiting for his discharge papers. I understand it is bank holiday Monday-doctors are busy etc..but he must be going out of his mind right now waiting and waiting..not fun for an 80 year old man who wants to go home to his own bed.

Sorry NHS but grrr.... >:(

Hospitals routinely blame local authorities for delayed transfers of care...

...but in my experience the majority of delays are the results of actions/inaction by hospitals themselves. The mark of a good hospital is minimal DTOCs.

Hope your dad is OK!

That's rough, @Lullabelle. Particularly now, no one should hang around a hospital a second more than they have to.

I hope he is home safe!

He is still in! I understand they are busy etc..but I just angry at the messing him about and concerned for his mental health. When he 1st went in his records weren't properly read so the scan was a waste of time, now they have decided he needs another.

Lack of communication all round by the sound of things. He had cancer last year and his kidney removed so there is the worry but they seem to be dragging their heels a bit.

I wasn't sure if this belongs in food and drink, or gardening. I have got broccoli flowering in the fridge
