Wow! Sounds fun. Mrs R and I rode our Bromptons down to Frome (from Oxford) 6 week’s ago. Part of the route took in the Ridgeway - I’ve decided that 18” wheels aren’t really the thing for off roading. It’s beautiful countryside all the way.

Nice! The Ridgeway is a cracking ride, but gets very muddy in places. I did it on an old school MTB, an adventure or CX bike would also work well I think.

I’m just back from a 36 mile ride on my Cervelo. I averaged 13.5 mph. I seem to be getting slower and slower. Once upon a time I did 2hrs 16mins for a 50 mile time trial up the A12 to Colchester and back. I’ve decided my knees (and for that matter the rest of me) have seen much better days.

Sounds great. What was your route? Where did you camp?

We camped at Vallis Veg just outside Frome. I can post the route up once I've downloaded it. Some parts were too overgrown to ride down but it was mostly fine, especially if you have some MTB experience. It was very hilly!

Heading home today on a complicated series of trains, which includes having to ride between Hemel Hempstead and Watford Junction due to weekend engineering works. Hopefully the rain will gave stopped by then .

A slow 19 miles this morning. Lots of off road and a few bits where walking was required as cycling not allowed. What was described by the BBC as a ‘moderate breeze’ was a bit of an energy sapping headwind for a significant chunk of the ride.

It's been dry all morning in this part of the world (10 miles from each). You should be (have been) fine - although as routes go Hemel to Watford doesn't sound like the most fun to have on a bike.

I hesitate to claim it as a “ride” but as a bicycle was involved I might get away with it. My colleagues at work tipped me off that we were bringing in a new transformer to a local-ish substation in the early hours of this morning. So I took my Brompton and for a happy hour forgot any pretence of being a sensitive, socially engaged feminist and gave full rein to my nerdy inner engineer, tailing the convoy through Surrey roads, leapfrogging it between junctions, and revelling in the pure romance of heavy transport.

Twenty miles this morning, six women and four men. Now all at the pub, beer in hand, buŕgers on the grill and bands playing.

In the end I didn't do it, because there was a coach being used as a rail-replacement bus and the driver let me put the bike in the luggage compartment. I felt very lucky. But when I got to Watford Junction I discovered that Southern had withdrawn all their trains, and my only option was another bus to Stanmore. I was lucky again, in that one driver of a double-decker was happy to take me and the bike (as the bus was empty apart from me), and also unlucky in that he got horribly lost and we spent an hour and a half driving round and round, including an excursion the wrong way up the M1. It was so awful it was hilarious. Then I had to take the bike illegally on the tube from Stanmore (where it's overground) to London bridge (where it isn't, and I got a real telling off). My journey home took all day, and was eventful to say the least :-)
