There are different kinds of intelligence, and it's possible to have loads of one type and none of another. Allegedly, Tennyson had a panic attack once because his watch had stopped and he had no idea what to do about it.

And Newton is said to have cut a hole for his cat to get in and out and, when the cat had kittens, that he cut a smaller hole for them.
