Old fogeys unite against meaningless marketing hype

Post by JohnToo » 5 years ago

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/m ... pro-racers

The marketing hype for the latest Brompton, lazily cut-and-pasted by the Guardian, boasts of "race-tuned suspension".

Translation: we stuck in a stiffer bit of rubber. C'mon, guys, the only thing you can vary is the elasticity of that one bit of rubber. That certainly makes a difference - my riding pleasure increased markedly when I switched to the stiffer of the two standard offerings - but "race tuned"? Seriously?

My Brompton is race tuned......when the Prof rides it. It's very puddingy (is that a word?) when I ride it.

I tuned mine with a couple of zip ties round the rubber bung thing.

Guardian
Observer. Which is still mostly a different operation from the parent daily.

Every newspaper, every website, every email newsletter relies heavily on company press releases, especially for boring technical lists. The article does note that some of what the designers are saying is full of guff.
