Kylie but no Madonna? 😲
Apparently we prefer antipodean economic migrants to gobby American ones.

I assume The Beetles is a Beatles tribute act...

Is the sign from [Moderated] local pub?

And Chesterfield is not that close to Devon.

I can't wait personally, I'm assuming 01/02/20 will be when people start coming in to my shop again.

Is it a local shop for local people? Are you, perchance, Edward Tattysyrup?

There'd be a hearty welcome for any bugger at the moment, local or not!

If you want a laugh/groan, look at June Mummery's Twitter feed (@june_mummery)

This is the soon to be former Brexshit Party MEP and she's supposedly an expert on fishing. Her tweets on the subject are cringeworthy.

You know those tragedies you sometimes see in the news, when someone is washed out to sea or falls into a swollen river, and the family appear on the news with desperate appeals for help or information or more resources? When there is no plausible scenario that the lost person could be alive, and the family must deep down know they died moments after they were last seen, but they hold out hope until the knock on the door from the police and they are told that a body has been found?

For 3 1/2 years I have been lying to myself, bathing in false hope. Sometime in the last couple of weeks, the metaphorical police knocked on my door. I feel numb, despite part of me having really known the truth on June 24th, 2016.

As I said on Facebook that day: Ah, fuck it!

In my emotions, I seem to have moved beyond grieving for the loss of EU membership itself, and instead, am in despair at the nature of the country we live in that produced this outcome. The liberal progress of the last decades now seems an illusion and the fundamental nature of our country is revealed to be small and narrow minded, xenophobic, racist, conservative, stunted, populist, and thoroughly selfish.

Yes, we all got that one the wrong way around. Ignoring or downplaying the unpalatable facts about our fellow humans at our cost.

Whilst many voted Leave for the reasons you cite, I see little chance of becoming better as a country as long as we collectively shake our heads and refill our wine glasses. Those of us with an education, decent job and secure housing - mostly voting Remain - may as well live on a different planet to the other half: imagine that you rely on benefits and have no job security. Your area has seen an influx of immigrants, your local facilities have closed, you can't get a doctor's appointment or your child into the local school. Someone keeps telling you that you can vote to stop that happening.

Ultimately, Populist leaders are telling a better, simpler story, and it's up to us to be more appealing rather than dismiss those we disagree with. That, I think, starts with addressing some of the very real concerns I outlined above.
