Yes - carbon fibre is energy intensive in production, but the company that made this yacht (which was actually launched back in 2015 - not created specifically for this trip) has a reputation for trying to be as green as possible (e.g. using recycled carbon fibre where it can). Not only that but the racing team allow the boat to be used for environmental monitoring and publishes the resultant data.

The attacks on Thunberg by the likes of Arron Banks are hypocrisy and thuggery of the worst kind.

Even if it is the case, had Thunberg taken the plane she would have faced an almost unprecedented barrage of abuse, the levels that she receives and their content are already utterly reprehensible, encouraged and emboldened by the likes of Banks and his disgusting opinions and comments, an example of which is the aspect that makes me angry about what I posted.

Obviously Banks is an arsehole, it shouldn't need saying, not least because she's a kid.

Probably the most carbon neutral way to get to America would be on a freighter (they aren't green, but they are going anyway), but she wants publicity - that's her job. And the yacht is going to be on some ocean, they won't have been planning on mothballing it for August, so why not transatlantic.

It's good to see someone leading by example. Al Gore wrote An Inconvenient Truth from his centrally heated and air conditioned 20 room mansion.
