Does anyone really care that a politician took drugs 20 odd years ago? I understand the Tory leader wannabes don't want skeletons coming out of their closet but really, does anyone care?

For any other role in society, I don't care. However, for a politician, who is responsible the laws, it tells us a lot. If he was black or working class and had been caught, it would have ruined his life. Yet he has made no effort to get those laws changed to ones focusing on harm reduction. He is a hypocrite. I guess they all probably are, but we don't usually have such direct evidence.

The Michael Gove cocaine scandal deepened last night after claims he hosted a party at which the drug was taken just hours after writing an article in which he condemned “middle-class professionals” using it.

The allegations centre on a party at Gove’s flat in Mayfair on December 27, 1999, where a witness claimed in The Mail on Sunday that “some of the other people were openly taking cocaine”.

Jo Brand's broadcast comments on milkshaking were close to the mark, imagine if she had described black people as piccanninies with watermelon smiles, surely that would be the end of her career.

Its a bit like a Bernard Manning joke, it might have been funny (to some) once, but not any more. So for JB, In todays political language arms race, probably not.

I heard that programme, and I thought I might have misheard that comment for a moment. It was reckless of her, but then the programme is called 'Heresy'. It's just a slightly lame vehicle for people to say outrageous things under the guise of comedy and pseudo-intellectual debate bestowed on them by compere Victoria Coren Mitchell, and I've never had much time for it.

And because of the excitement about Field's stupidity, nobody has bothered to report that Philip Hammond spent a chunk of the evening pointing out what we all know - that the promises of the idiots, one of whom is going to be our next PM, are built on sand.
