Yes, of course, that's first, but I can't do provide that.

I think you misunderstand what the volunteers are doing. While I believe red Cross and St John's ambulance are helping in hospitals, cleaning and laundry and similar tasks, the untrained volunteers aren't going anywhere near the staff. The are checking in with sick folks over the phone, delivering food and medicine to those in quarantine, driving patients, and driving equipment and supplies to hospital.

So have no fear, no one is teaching me to use PPE!
That's the impression I got , it looked like a way to officialise the helping that is going on. One fear I had is crooks using the opportunity to fleece vulnerable people posing as help.

Yes. We have had lots of discussions about whether normal safeguarding rules apply when the volunteering is coordinated by an organisation (e.g. safer recruitment and DBS).

You have to include a picture of a passport or license (or criminal check thingy, if you have one) and there is a process of verification that takes several days. I think they can make it pretty safe. We shall see 🤞

Oh that's what I mean, I wasn't criticizing it, As it is people are being well-meaning and helping people who need it. A local Facebook group has been set up and people have volunteered to shop for people and have also offered food when people are desperate. I think if they can make it even safer that would be good because there will always be someone who will take advantage and abuse the trust.

I didn't think you were criticising it, I was just explaining the process as it might not be obvious if you didn't try to complete registration.

Does anyone else remember a time when the phrase "They don't even know what day of the week it is" was an insult?

But I admit I am worried about safety too.

I've set up a WhatsApp group, but I can't be sure everyone is who they say they are. So that means we can discuss details of those in need on the public list, in case someone nefarious gains access.

It's Friday, right? Right? 🤔

Also apparently we don't know our arses from our elbows. We are supposed to sneeze into our elbows, yet we are hoarding toilet paper!

Are you aware he feels we are making steps in the right direction and seems to feel cautiously optimistic?

(I haven't read the report yet, but I must)

Also (doh!), how is someone so thoroughly educated so belligerently stupid??

The fact that Ferguson and Imperial keep having to ‘clarify’ their pronouncements/comments perhaps indicates some communication issues...

Things I thought I’d never say....

“Hopefully Boris will get better soon and be better positioned to manage this shit”

I've asked him whether, once he's recovered and immune, he'll volunteer for an unskilled job as a carer.

The Imperial College paper? See upthread. It's hugely reassuring.
