I don't understand the difference between blackface and drag

I would not bring this up in a public forum now. It's the time where we are sorting out racist tropes in our society, and while I hate sexism, racism is far worse.

But we aren't having a discourse of racism here, so maybe I can ask my question.

This has been removed from Netflix



But this other work from the same performer is apparently AOK. Honestly, I don't see the difference.



If it's not obvious, the same white man plays the central "Tongan" teen, and the the young woman. They are both hateful portraits, by a man who has more power than either "character".

It's tricky trying to separate the drag scene that is so celebrated at the moment from the mockery of women in the form of pantomime dames and Mrs Brown. I'd really like to see more of French and Saunders' fat-suited sleazy men, purely in the interest of balance you understand.
