Do we want Likes added?

I - um - like the idea, but I know it can be used negatively. Do we want it?

I’d prefer not to have likes - if I like something, I’ll say so.

Maybe give it a while without them? At the moment I am still automatically looking for the like button, but I'm sure I'll get over it.

I am happy without likes, or if they are present then make them anonymous. I saw them often used for passive agressive digs or straight bullying over there. Also may I ask, no leader boards of any type, it encourages multiple fatuous posts and like farming.

Where's the like button for this post?

(When they were first introduced in the ancient history of CC the s-to-n ratio improved a lot. They're useful, but @dunckel makes a good point about anonymity)

I like likes. I don't always want to be typing a short response and being able to just 'like' something is a suitable way of saying you've seen a post and enjoyed it/agree with it etc.

I would vote for anonymous likes. Some posts cry out for credit, but I agree that identifiable likes is a road to cliques and factions.

Yup that sounds the way to go. Are likes possible with the current software, @Joan?

I've turned on a beta like extension. You get a notification telling you who has liked a post, but as far as I can tell, no one else can see that. And it's configured so you don't see the totals of likes given or received.

Let's see how it works.

It's very easy to turn off if the consensus is no.

Likes aren't secret at the moment. You can see liking activity on the profile page. If we decide to use it, I am sure I can turn it off.

So, how do we feel about the likes? Shall I lock this topic, or do we want a change?

Personally I'm not a great lover of likes......but I don't feel strongly

I like getting them, I don't like not getting them. In saying that I don't always get the notifications so it probably evens itself out.

Also I prefer them to +1, has that already been said? +1 to anyone that's already said that.

I like likes. I also very much like not seeing who has liked someone else’s posts. It helps me to be more objective in my own assessment - I am not so arrogant as to assume I am immune to a herd bias. But I also like being able to find out who has liked mine.

I think the present system is about right
