The marvellous Agnes Varda has died aged 90. When she was awarded her honorary Oscar she couldn't be bothered to go along, and sent a cardboard cut-out of herself instead.

RIP Agnes Varda
Re: RIP Agnes Varda
Thanks.
I read the article, and I think it needs to be pointed out, at 89 she wasn't given an honorary Oscar, she was nominated for a documentary she had just made.
Hells bells!
Edit: ah! Nominated for a competitive award and the recipient of an honorary one at the same ceremony. Hence the need for so many cutouts

You are right, I do beg her pardon! I don't know where I got that from. Plus it wasn't just one cardboard cut-out, it was several.
Gratuitous link with the Food Distribution thread - I saw her film "The Gleaners and I" recently at a fund-raising event, and it was brilliant and timely, even though it was made years ago.

Doh! I was just editing my post when you wrote yours. Turns out we are both right.

I came to know her through her colaborations with the French artist JR. I admit I know little of her films but I admire her recent work as political satarist, artist and general source of fun for those around her.

I was looking at these photos, thinking how much I liked that lately she was just letting her hair grow out to its natural white; how striking it looks. Then I realised that, by the timelines given, she must have kept tinting the red bits and I wondered how it was done so neatly, while also liking the overall effect even more for it.
