Crumbs. £129 per unit, plus a 1% transaction fee. Or all free with good old-fashioned plastic.

Re: Meanwhile...
To celebrate my retirement yesterday, my wife organised a surprise dinner at our local Italian with our local funeral director and her husband, who happens to be the vicar. They brought balloons. So we spent the whole evening talking very loudly in the crowded restaurant about Graham the vicar retiring. I will be disappointed if we haven't managed to start a few rumours going.

The 1% is charged on top-ups, rather than on purchases. Effectively this is a prepaid credit ‘card’.

Yes, enjoy not working @JohnToo, I'm sure @Rocky can give you some tips on being a man of leisure.

But you can't make a purchase without making a top-up! Either way you're being charged 1% to use the thing.

But think of the energy you'll save by not having to reach into your pocket, get your wallet out, and find the card! Or even tote the wallet about in the first place, come to that. Worth every penny, surely.

Re: Meanwhile...
So, just in case retirement wasn't enough to remind you that you are mortal, she takes you to dinner with a vicar AND a funeral director?
Did you decide on casket, flowers, hymns and readings?
Sorry...

oh, surely you're far too young to retire!
Am I the only one who was nervous waiting for the page to load? I mean, I know it's not likely they'd sell cock rings at a bike show, but I couldn't think of what sort of ring they would sell.Regulator wrote: ↑7 years agoI picked up a new toy at the London Bike Show today...
...a McLear Ring.

Re: Meanwhile...
When she became a funeral director (he was already vicar) some unkind people muttered about conflict of interest. In fact, she says the main advantage is that she knows that, if all else fails, there's one local vicar who can hardly refuse her request to take a funeral...

Re: Meanwhile...
Sure, it's a very minor convenience, but not so different to using a phone vs a contactless card. Or a contactless card vs chip and pin. Or chip and pin vs carbon imprinter and signature.
There's always cash, I suppose.
