“Is there a doctor on this flight?”
He looked round rather desperately, hoping there just happened to be a few world renowned trauma specialists who just by coincidence had been in Jerez for a conference - but no such luck. Luckily (for the patient more than anything) it was only a diabetic who hadn’t eaten properly.
Warning: serious medical events depicted below light-heartedly.
Pah! What a disappointment that must have been (just kidding!). I've been on board two dramatic "is there a doctor on board" flights. The first was my (e/i)mmigration. Call went out, very distressed sounding flight attendant. I don't know anything after that, kept thinking it was serious and the flight was diverting to Mecca because the screens kept showing where it was. (yup, I was an a Malaysian Air flight). We eventually arrived a LHR, and we weren't allowed to disembark until a policeman and a medical examiner boarded and ...did their thing. The medical emergency had quickly ended with the poor lady's demise.
The second was on a flight from a company meeting in Atlanta. A passenger had a serious event, and we dumped the fuel into the Hudson and landed at JFK. The passenger was alive when he stretchered off the plane, but an attendant I asked obviously thought it was very very serious.
I'd never complain under such circumstances, but as it turned out it actually got me home faster. Our company was spread over several transatlantic flights, and there was flooding in London, so those whose flights left on time ended up at various airports (Cardiff, mostly, though Manchester and a few others as well). So despite our hours of delay, we landed at Heathrow after it reopened, and I was in bed at home while my colleagues were still at Cardiff Station (or stuck on a bus on the M4).

Damn. Missed my annual Boat Race joke:
Isn't it amazing that Oxford and Cambridge always make the finals?

We’ve had a few calls before...

Re: Meanwhile...
Aside: an Doctor friend from Kerala has more than once been asked by the patient to produce papers after responding to call for medical assistance.
She's a better person than me. She provided proof. I would have walked away.
This is probably part of the reasons I knew medicine wasn't my calling.

Jon produced his Addenbrookes ID - but it’s also in his passport. Apparently, it’s not unknown for non-medics to answer a call.

Re: Meanwhile...
That's good news. I'd always assumed my friends story was based on racism.
(I mean, it still might be, but that would require a double blind test to prove)

You're ahead of me! I haven't seen any of it yet.
Did you like it?
The place for detailed discussion is probably here. Wrap late season commentary in spoilers, if you do.

Re: Meanwhile...
I did, we may have to binge watch the whole lot over the next few days.
The very distinctive tone and style of the series is laid out in the first few minutes, and being the first episode it is about introducing characters rather than story development. Do watch it, I think you will decide if it is for you or not very quickly.

Re: Meanwhile...
It is different to anything I have seen before and yes I like it. Thing is, a lot of programmes get really hyped up and yet are rubbish which is why I have ignored this, I now know differently and look forward to watching the rest of it.

Re: Meanwhile...
Just found a nutrition label in Waitrose where the sugars were more than the total carbohydrates. I pointed this out to customer services, who don’t quite understand the problem until I brought them a selection of other items to illustrate what it should look like.
They checked on the computer - which was also wrong. They phoned head office, but there was no-one from the nutritional team available. They’ve promised to get back to me.
I didn’t have the heart to tell them they should actually take the item off the shelf...

Re: Meanwhile...
I assumed this was just insane click bait, but apparently Scott is trying to do it. He even has an idea to get Crowe involved. I hope he borrows from (nerd alert ) A Better Tomorrow II, and has him play Maximus' previously unmentioned twin.
